Staff Biographies

Tana MartinTana Martin, RYT 200

I am co-owner of Eight Stones Yoga studio and recognize that it is a privilege and indeed my pleasure to serve our community in this way. I have been studying and practicing yoga since 1993.  I’ve studied with Suzie Hurley, Beryl Bender Birch, Barbara Benaugh and Victor van Kooten.  I studied with Moses Brown, certified Anusara Teacher Trainer, for four and a half years and take weekly classes with Stan Andrzejewski, the director of Greater Baltimore Yoga Center.  I have also studied with JJ Gormley-Etchells for many years and I’m currently enrolled in her program at the 700 hour level.  I hold a teacher certification from The Yoga Center of Columbia, MD and maintain a daily personal practice.   I feel that breath awareness is an integral part of yoga practice and from that a natural sense of movement and grace evolves.

David Horwitz, RYT 200

Staff_David2.jpgI am co-owner of Eight Stones Yoga. I began practicing Yoga in San Diego, California in 1976. My first teachers were trained by B.K.S. Iyengar in India. I began to teach in 1977. I moved to Houston Texas in 1981 where I continued my personal Yoga practice. I moved to York PA in 1991 and began teaching at Eight Stones Yoga Studio when it opened in 1999. I hold a 300 hour Yoga Teacher certification from Sun & Moon Yoga Studios, Arlington, VA. And I am currently working to complete my 700 hour certification with JJ Gormley. I am passionate about my yoga practice and teaching, and approach yoga as a lifetime practice. I follow Patanjali’s Eight Limbed Path which helps me to focus on proper body alignment, breath control and inner strength to work through barriers. I have studied with JJ Gormley, Seane Corn, Jonny Kest, Suzie Hurley, Moses Brown, Barbara Benaugh and Victor van Kooten. I regularly attend nationally presented Yoga Conferences and enjoy a variety of Yoga paths. For the future I am committed to making the Eight Stones Yoga community a guiding light for likeminded people.

Vanessa BradleyVanessa Bradley, RYT 500

Vanessa has been studying and practicing yoga since 1998, and leading fitness and wellness classes since 1990.  She holds a Yoga Teacher certification from Willow Street Yoga Center, Takoma Park, MD and describes her teaching as “Anusara – inspired.”  She is a certified Whole Birth Prenatal Yoga instructor.  Vanessa maintains a dedicated, personal yoga practice which fuels her teaching; her enthusiasm for the art of yoga shines forth in her classes.  She continues her studies with John Friend, the founder of the Anusara style, Suzie Hurley, Jenny Otto and Julie Madill.  Born and raised in York, Vanessa is married and the mother of two children.

Jenifer Yost, RYT 200

Jenifer has been practicing yoga since 1999 and received her 200 hour training from the Mount Nittany Institute of Natural Health in State College, PA.  She is now a member of their teacher training faculty.  She studies Zen meditation and awareness with Cheri Huber, and her yoga teaching is informed by her love of this practice.  Jenifer is also continuing her study of body, mind and spirit by pursuing 500 hour yoga certification through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and training to become a certified life coach.  Her teaching is inspired by the Kripalu and Kundalini paths.  “It is not necessary to twist your body like a pretzel in order to enjoy the many physical and emotional benefits of yoga practice!”  Jenifer teaches a compassionate and joyful approach to reducing stress and increasing flexibility, strength and self-acceptance through yoga

Carrie Hall, RYT 200

When Carrie first began yoga practice she quickly realized its familiarity.  She began teaching in 2003, and received her 200 hour certification at The Spirit of Yoga in West Chester, PA.  She teaches yoga with a Kripalu flair, also teaching Ashtanga, Prenatal and Restorative styles.  Carrie lives in Red Lion with her husband, and is the mother of five children.

staff_carrieFernanda Cunha

Fernanda began practicing yoga in 2002 in Florianópolis (Brazil) where she was born and grew up. She holds a Therapeutic Yoga Teacher Certification from Yama Studio, Baltimore MD. She has been studying with a variety of yoga teachers from different backgrounds which allowed her to teach a unique yoga style with a healing therapeutic approach seeking the self inner balance. She is a passionate yogini who incorporated yoga as her personal life style. Her classes are built based on her love for yoga, the benefits that the practice brings to all levels of our lives, and her belief that the teacher is there to inspire the students to find the treasures within themselves. She is an eternal yoga student who continuously attends to workshops, trainings and classes besides her own practice. "Balance is our essence and through yoga practice we can find it within us"

Staff_yvonne1Yvonne Cantler

Yvonne’s background in martial arts brought her to Eight Stones in 2005 looking for a way to increase her flexibility and add to her meditation practice. What she found was a love of yoga and a way of living that has brought better health and balance to her life. Her current training has taught her to pull from all styles of yoga to find what is most beneficial for her students.  Her passion for teaching and helping others, comes thru in her class as she uses the principles of proper alignment and breathing to help bring self awareness to each individual. She is currently studying with JJ Gormley Etchells and will soon be completing her RYT 300 program.
